Shawna Murphy Woner
Partner
Shawna joined the predecessor firm as a law clerk in 1988 and was invited to become a partner shortly after admission to the Bar in 1989. While all partners of the firm provide services in all aspects of civil litigation, Shawna’s strength and passion are in those cases involving catastrophic personal injury or death; complex motion practice; mediation; and appellate work. Shawna has earned the respect of clients and colleagues by passionately and vigorously advocating for the clients’ cause without ever losing sight of the objectives of our justice system, and while maintaining steadfast adherence to the Lawyer’s Creed of Professionalism by demonstrating and demanding the utmost respect for all those in the litigation process. Shawna believes that to win a case is important, but to do so while also winning the confidence of the client; the respect of an adversary; and the trust and admiration of the court is the true goal. She believes that the pursuit of justice allows for civility, professionalism, decorum, and fairness without fear that one might perceive that as a sign of weakness. Victory with honor and integrity, then, is her true objective. Shawna furthers that goal by initiating an early dialog with opposing counsel designed to allow for an early evaluation and identification of those matters that might be best served by resolution, and conversely those that require case-specific discovery to allow for meaningful evaluation and ultimately trial.
Within the legal community, Shawna has provided pro bono assistance and served as an Attorney Team Member of the Commission on Judicial Performance Review for the State Bar of Arizona in 2010, 2012, 2016, 2018, and 2020. She has assisted with Continuing Legal Education programs, including the State Bar Course on Professionalism; has served as a Judge for the Arizona College of Trial Lawyers Regional Trial Competition in Tucson, and she has supported programs offering youth the opportunity to tour the courthouse. Shawna has been married to her husband, Jeffrey since 1986 and they now have three grown daughters, who have become her best friends. Their family has served at St. Vincent de Paul, where they were nominated for a national Family Volunteer Points of Light Award; Andre House; Maggie’s Place, where they renovated homes for unwed expectant mothers; and hosted an annual tournament in honor of her parents through the Catholic Community Foundation. Shawna currently serves on the Board of a pediatric brain tumor charity and as a founding member of WISH, Women in Service and Hope of St. Vincent de Paul Society. In recent years, Shawna has focused her practice on mediation.
